Sustainable Water Supply For Tribal Villages in Madhya Pradesh
Client : NGO Partnering with Government Rural Water Mission
Location : Betul District, Madhya Pradesh
Sector : Community Water Access | Rural Infrastructure | Solar Energyh

The Challenge
In the remote tribal belts of Betul, access to safe drinking water was an everyday struggle. Villagers—especially women and children—walked for hours each day to fetch water from distant sources, often unclean and seasonal.
With no grid electricity, traditional pumping systems were not an option. The situation not only affected health and hygiene but also consumed time that could be spent on education, farming, or income-generating activities.
The Solution – Powered by ILLUMAC
ILLUMAC, in collaboration with the implementing NGO, designed and deployed a solar-powered drinking water system tailored to the village’s terrain and water table.
Key Features of the Solution:
-
High-efficiency solar submersible pump
-
Automated start-stop controller with smart monitoring
-
Durable overhead tank with gravity-fed tap distribution
-
Zero dependency on diesel or grid power
The Impact
-
1,200+ tribal residents now receive clean water within minutes from local tap points.
-
Time to fetch water reduced from 2+ hours to just 5–10 minutes.
-
Marked improvement in sanitation, cooking practices, and school attendance, especially for girls.
-
100% renewable – the system runs entirely on solar energy, producing zero emissions and no recurring fuel costs.
-
The project was officially recognized and featured in the 2023 State Rural Development Report as a model for other tribal villages.
Client Quote:
“This water project changed our lives. Now, clean water is just a few steps away — and our daughters don’t miss school to carry water anymore.”
